SunTunnel Skylights Shine Bright
Bring natural daylight into spaces a standard skylight cannot reach.
Some of the darkest rooms in a house are the ones that never see the sun: an interior hallway, a windowless bathroom, a walk-in closet, a stairwell. A traditional skylight needs a straight, open path from the roof to the ceiling, and many of these spaces simply do not have one. A Velux SunTunnel Skylight solves that problem. It channels daylight affordably through attic obstructions and long shaft runs to brighten the spaces a conventional skylight cannot serve.
How a SunTunnel works.
The system is simple and effective. A weatherproof dome on the roof captures daylight and feeds it into a highly reflective tube. That tube carries the light down through the attic, bending around framing, ductwork, and other obstacles along the way. At the ceiling, a diffuser spreads the light evenly across the room. The result is a once-dark space connected to the outdoors by clean, natural sunlight.
When should you install a SunTunnel Skylight?
A SunTunnel is the right choice when you want daylight but a standard skylight will not work or is more than the job calls for. Consider one in these situations:
-
- The room has no exterior wall or roofline for a window or skylight. Interior bathrooms, closets, pantries, laundry rooms, and hallways are ideal candidates.
- The attic is in the way. When ductwork, framing, wiring, or a long run between the roof and ceiling rules out a straight skylight shaft, the flexible tube of a SunTunnel routes around the obstruction.
- You want more light without a renovation. A SunTunnel installs quickly, usually in a few hours, with no drywall work, no painting, and far less disruption than building out a full light shaft.
- You would rather not pay for a full skylight. A SunTunnel costs less to buy and install than a traditional skylight, which makes it a practical way to brighten a small or awkward space.
- You want daylight without the heat or glare. The diffuser softens incoming light, so you gain brightness during the day without the direct sun and added heat a large skylight can bring.
- You want to cut daytime electricity use. With a SunTunnel doing the work, many rooms need no artificial light at all during daylight hours.
If a room gets little use simply because it feels dark and closed in, a SunTunnel is often the most cost-effective way to change that.
Great light earns rave reviews.
We enjoy installing SunTunnels because our customers love the results. Clean, even daylight can turn a dreary corner of the house into a space people actually want to use, and it does so without a major remodel. It really is like seeing your home in a whole new light.
