Anson Martin’s Vision For Valley Roofing & Exteriors Was Fueled By Local Needs

In 2003, Anson Martin moved to the Shenandoah Valley and quickly noticed a recurring theme among local contractors: a desire for higher-quality roofing crews in the area.

Driven by a belief that he could make a difference, Anson founded Valley Roofing in 2004.

“I saw the opportunity and took it, believing that I could make a difference and that I could make it better,” Anson recalls.

His commitment to quality and integrity laid the foundation for what has become a trusted name throughout the Valley.

The Company Is More Than A Place To Work For Its Team Members

Valley Roofing & Exteriors’ success is deeply rooted in its core values and dedication to its people.

“It all comes down to our leadership and core values; they are really what makes Valley Roofing & Exteriors a great place to work. It trickles down from the top, but there are a lot of great people here who truly care about each other and our customers,” shares Lowell Showalter, who joined in 2008.

Jerry Martin adds, “We don’t just show up to work and never have any fun. We have regular company meetings where we play games together and have an annual company banquet. Anson has really invested in each employee here at VR&E.”

Empathy-Driven Leadership Is At The Heart Of Valley Roofing & Exteriors

Beyond making work fun, Anson Martin has also led his company with empathy, treating employees as people first to ensure their well-being above all else.

Lowell Showalter details how Anson found opportunities for him while healing from health issues;

“A couple years after starting, I had some health issues and needed to get away from heavy lifting as a result. I told Anson that I needed to find a job that didn’t require heavy lifting and he said to stay as long as I needed while looking for another job. Over that time, our office had a position open up and jokingly, I said I’d do it.  Anson reached out to schedule training for that position, even though I knew nothing about Quickbooks and the duties in the office. He said, ‘Look, if it doesn’t work out, you can resume looking for other work, but let’s give it a try.’ Nine years later, I moved out of the office management position and into sales. The moral of the story is that Anson has given me opportunities I couldn’t have dreamed of. He showed me grace countless times as I learned new things.”

Investing In Employee Development Yields Positive Returns For All

Valley Roofing & Exteriors’ top-quality roofing solutions are only possible because of the professionalism and competence of its team. By recruiting the right people and investing in their futures, the company has experienced continued success.

Anson acknowledges that finding the right people has been one of his biggest challenges over the past two decades. “As we’ve grown, finding and training people who want to stay and be a part of what we’re doing has been challenging,” he shares.

One way he addresses this challenge is by offering regular team training, paid certifications and opportunities for professional development.

“Valley Roofing has supported my growth over the years by sending me to intensive sales training, industry expos and local training events. The company understands that if we individually grow, we all win,” notes James Groff.

Joseph Showalter shares,

“Anson has always done a tremendous job investing in our professional growth. We have traveled to many industry conferences and training over the years and I worked with a business coach for a few years which was very impactful. I’ve always appreciated that if I wanted to go after something; the means to do so have been there every time.”

“I have to give credit to the team for the growth of the company. Yes, I lead the way, but nothing happens if people aren’t following me and making my vision a reality.” – Anson Martin, Founder & Owner

They’ve supported local organizations such as Blue Ridge Foster Love, Blue Ridge Christian School, Central Habitat for Humanity, The Community Foundation of Harrisonburg-Rockingham, Hope Ridge, Sportsmen of the Valley and more.

“Turning 20 means that we have strong, committed leadership. It means that we as an organization are committed to bettering ourselves, the people around us and the community,” explains Jerry Martin, who joined the company in 2006.

As he celebrates the 20th anniversary, Anson reflects on the journey and looks to the future with optimism.

“When I started, I never could see 20 years ahead. It’s kinda like the horizon—you can walk towards it, but never get there. My focus is to look to the future but enjoy the journey,” he says. Thank you to everyone who’s made this journey possible and for your continued trust in our roofing and exterior services. Here’s to another 20 years!” Anson expresses with gratitude.
